Uniondale's Artists

A number of artists have decided to make Uniondale their home. Below are their details with some examples of their work. Please click on the thumbnails to view larger versions of the artwork.

GAIL STREVER has a B.A. Fine Art degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. She lives and works as a full-time artist in Uniondale.

BENEDICT MORKEL is a talented young ceramicist living and working in Uniondale. His training started with Kim Sacks of Johannesburg and continued more recently with Leslie-Anne Hoets in Knysna.

Benedict masterfully created fine porcelain pieces on the wheel. His most recent production is "hand work" which enables him to create larger works. His work appears in the Knysna Fine Arts Gallery and in private and international collections both here and overseas.

PAULA BEATSON worked in advertising in Johannesburg for many years. The city traffic got her down so she moved to Uniondale with her thirteen year old daughter which proved to be the smartest thing she had ever done.

And now she has decided to become a famous artist and is frantically busy working with pastel, oil, PVA and charcoal - Great Fun!

SUE BELLIS achived a distinguished Bachelor's degree in Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, majoring in English and Film & Drama. Her absorbtion in film and motion pictures produced an interest in still photography.

She is particularly interested in close-up photography of plants and in detailed textures.

For the last year that she has been living in Uniondale she has been concerned with photographing landscapes and the light and texture of the Klein Karoo.

RENE RUDMAN started her career as an art teacher. She left teaching in 1996 to dedicate herself full-time to painting.

She now lives and works in Uniondale where she draws her inspiration from the environment and wildlife.
