tracks. There are, however, private 4 x 4 routes where both the driver and
vehicle can be put to the test.

Burchell Ox wagon Track dates
back to 1811. Today, with your modern wagon you can
negotiate part of the sledge route travelled by WJ Burchell.
For the not so experienced come and enjoy his bush camp or
be more brave and trek up to the pioneer camp set in a
indigenous forest. A abundance of indigenous fauna a flora
awaits the traveller at this unique gem in the heart of the
Middel Keurbooms Conservancy area. Meet the legendary Katot

richest areas in flora in South Africa. We have a unique combination
of Subtropical, Western Cape, Grasveld and Karoo Flora. It is
estimated that 2352 species can be found in the Uniondale area. There
are also at least 70 species of medicinal plants.

Hiking
Numerous hiking trails will let you see what the ancient San People
saw. Enjoy the sight of 6 majestic mountain ranges, over 140 bird
species, more than 2300 flower and plant species and over 40 animal
species. Hikes range from 1 hour to several days.

Nature Reserves
There is one nature reserve and a number of private game reserves in
the area. Uniondale is also considered as the western gateway to the
Baviaanskloof
Wilderness area.
|
Game Viewing
Uniondale is blessed with an abundance of game. Of the big five both
the Leopard and Buffalo occur in our district. In total the area has
43 species such as Eland, Gemsbuck, Steenbok, Ostriches and Baboons.
|
Historical Sites
Uniondale has a rich history dating back as far as 6000 years. This is
largely covered by the San activities. More recently there were many
occurrences in history that will be of interest to visitors, such as
the Anglo Boer war.

Mountain Biking
Numerous outrides range from 1 or 2 hours to 1 or 2 days. Just the
views, the scenery and you.
|
Bird Watching
Due to the low rain fall and a
limited amount of lakes, streams and dams the birds tend to
concentrate in areas where dams and streams occur. This ensures an
abundance of birds in relatively concentrated areas. Over 140 species
have already been recorded. Black Eagles, Blue Cranes and White Stork
are regular sightings.

Horse Riding
Most farms have rideable horses which are mostly used for farming
activities. Skilled riders will find lots of opportunities on the
farms.

Hunting
Hunting excursions are offered on various farms in the area. Please
enquire.

Agri Tourism
Farming in the Uniondale area is diverse. It ranges from ostriches,
sheep, angora goats and game to fruit farming such as apples, plums,
peaches and apricots.
